England is a breeding ground of raw talent. Some say the British manipulate America’s formulas for hit records, others say they enhance it and add their own niche. Simmy Wilson the daughter of Jewish and African parents hails from Manchester England bringing her own personal take on urban music. She finds her solace in her creativity, the only place she feels like she is truly accepted. After working close to a hundred regular jobs, she knew that a regular 9 to 5 was not what she was cut out to do. She caught her first glimpse of fame after answering an ad to appear on MTV’s dating show Singled Out. It took her four times to be noticed by the show’s casting department and she would call back with several different names and finally after giving her real name Simmy, it lead to her being featured on the show as a Picker. Years later she did some modeling for Naomi Campbell’s mother, who incessantly dropped her from various modeling opportunities and told her she would never walk in her daughter’s footsteps. She was eventually discovered by a studio engineer that asked her if she could sing, she replied “No but, I know how to rap. “I used to listen to all of Snoop Dogg’s records all of the time and my mother would break everyone of them that she found in the house”. Upon hearing her rapping style, the engineer said that her style sounded too “American”. “You need to sound more English”. She stuck to her hard-core Americanized delivery and never looked back. She fell in love with creating beats and rapping. After producing several songs for artists outside of the U.K., she comes forth with her single “Hot Boi” which is slated to feature the reggae sensation Spragga Benz. When asked about her overtly sexual image, she replies “I am getting older, and I may not have this body forever, so why not be young and fabulous?” Truer words never spoken.
